FML Blackwork Pattern

This cross stitch/blackwork pattern combines the ancient technique of blackwork embroidery with the modern language of the internet.

Fuck My Life. It's become one of the most popular ways for citizens of the internet to express their frustration with drudgery and disappointment of everyday life, even if it's somewhat hyperbolic. It's also often juxtaposed against expressions of joy at the relative ease with which so many of us live these days, too - as pointed out by the K. Flay song which counterpoints a chorus of "Fuck my life" with refrains of "I love my life," echoing the un-self-aware vapidness of so much social media.

The finished piece (if done on 14ct Aida as I did) is the perfect size to fit in a 4"x6" frame (about 3.5" by 5.5", but my sample is shown in a 5"x7" frame to give it a little breathing room.

I gave my original of this to K.Flay, since her song inspired the project. Every once in a while I see it in the background of her instagram.

Size: 78 x 53 stitches (see images for sizing)
All stitches used are straight stitches or backstitching, but there are some fractional stitches required.
Difficulty: ⚫⚫⚪⚪⚪ low-to-moderate, but pay attention to the details and plan out your thread path carefully.
