Monopoly is one of the bestselling (and worst) board games of all time. Seriously, does anyone actually like to play it, besides as a way of creating shared familial trauma?
But did you know that its original anti-capitalist message was corrupted and lost when the game was stolen from its original creator, Elizabeth Magie?
It was originally titled "The Landlord Game" and was meant to illustrate the fallacy of the American dream; to demonstrate that in capitalism, the only possible outcome is the inevitable concentration of wealth without regard for virtue or or work ethic - that this is not a flaw in the system but indeed its entire purpose by design.
This pattern pays homage to that history, mashing up the Monopoly mascot Rich Uncle Pennybags with the threatening air of Jules from Pulp Fiction, with apologies to Banksy.
Sample stitch is shown on 14ct Aida in a custom-built 8.5 x 6.5" frame (which I made from a frame I got at a yard sale). On 16 or 18ct, it would fit nicely in a 5x7" frame available anywhere.
