With this PDF counted blackwork pattern, you can make for yourself or for a loved one a daily reminder that your story is not over; that you have more to say before your sentence ends.
Since 2013, the semicolon has been elevated from a simple, under-used punctuation mark—beloved by grammar wonks and feared by all others—to a symbol of hope, support, and solidarity for those who struggle with depression, suicidal thoughts, mental health, and self-harm. It symbolizes the fact that we can always choose to continue; semicolons are used when an author could have chosen to end a sentence, but instead decides they have more to say.
I created this pattern in honor of those who choose every day to keep putting more words on the page, continuing the story of their lives. In honor of someone I loved whose story was never finished because she lost her battle with depression and trauma, I am donating my receipts from this pattern to Project Semicolon, which seeks to prevent suicide through support, education, and policy changes.
Purple and teal are the colors of the suicide awareness ribbon, so that's why I chose this color.
My example in the photo was stitched on 14 ct aida and framed with a custom mat in a 5 x 7" frame, which I recommend. I've also done this on 28ct Monaco over 2 and that was gorgeous as well.
